Austria has three major airports: Vienna, Salzburg, and Innsbruck.

Austrian Airlines is the country’s national airline. It is part of the Lufthansa Group, Europe’s largest airline group, and a member of the Star Alliance.

The proximity of Munich to Austria means that Munich International Airport is also a key airport for visitors to Austria.

Vienna

Vienna International Airport (VIE) is located 19km southwest of the city centre.

Direct Flights from the UK, USA, Canada, the Middle East and Europe land in Vienna.

  • The City Airport Train (CAT) is a dedicated express airport train that departs every 30 minutes to the central Wien Mitte station- which connects with the U3 and U4 subway lines. It is the fastest connection from and to Vienna city centre, taking just 16 minutes.
  • The Vienna Airport Bus Lines take you directly to the airport or the city centre of picking you up from various districts of Vienna with three express lines.
  • The Railway and S-Bahn the ÖBB Railjets and the S7 S-Bahn, are cost-effective alternatives that go to Vienna Airport from all major Vienna railway stations. The journey takes ~25 minutes.

Innsbruck

Innsbruck Airport is the largest international airport in Tyrol in western Austria. It is located ~4 kilometres (2.5 mi) from the centre of Innsbruck and handles regional flights as well as seasonal international traffic to European destinations.

Salzburg

Salzburg Airport is known as Salzburg Airport Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. It is Austria’s second-largest airport, a gateway to Austria’s ski resorts, and international flights to European destinations. The airport is located 3.1 km (2.0 mi) from the centre of Salzburg and 2 km (1.2 mi) from the Austrian-German border.

Munich

Munich Franz Josef Strauss Airport is an international airport located ~ 28.5 km (17.7 mi) northeast of Munich. Munich International Airport is the second busiest airport in Germany and serves as the hub for Lufthansa.
