Free public transportation in Salzburgerland!
The Salzburg Guest Mobility Ticket
From May 1, 2025, all overnight guests in the State of Salzburg (Salzburgerland) will receive a Guest Mobility Ticket which gives you free, unlimited access to all public transport in the State of Salzburg.
This ticket is valid for the entire duration of your stay in Salzburgerland.
The Guest Mobility Ticket covers:
- Salzburg city transport
- Regional bus services
- ÖBB trains in SalzburgerLand, including Regional trains (REX), long-distance trains (RJ/RJX), S-Bahn trains and Salzburg Transport shuttles.
- Westbahn railway in the state of Salzburg
- Pinzgau local railway on the Zell am See-Krimml line (excluding steam and special trains)
*Excluding steam and special trains, night bus services and mountain trains/gondolas/lifts
How do I get a Guest Mobility Ticket?
You will receive the ticket electronically as a mobile wallet pass or a PDF, either at check-in or pre-check-in at your accommodation in the province of Salzburg.

What do I need to do to get a Guest Mobility Ticket
You will need to complete the Tourist registration, which is compulsory in Austria. You will be required to provide the following for each guest: Names, passport or European ID, birthdates, email address (to download the electronic ticket), and home address.
Registration will normally be completed online and will be required before your arrival in order for you to use the Guest Mobility Card for transportation to your accommodation.
Also note: All adult guests (>14 years old) pay a tourist tax €/person/night. The tourist tax may be included in your hotel invoice. For Self-catered accommodation, this is normally an extra that is paid in cash.
Guest Mobility Ticket Validity
The ticket is valid from the first night of your stay for the entire duration of your stay in SalzburgerLand, and can also be used on both the day of arrival and departure (if you completed the online check-in).
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I buy the Guest Mobility Ticket?
The Guest Mobility Ticket cannot be purchased separately. You must stay in paid accommodation (hotel, hostel, self-catered apartments, camping sites, etc). You do NOT receive a Guest Mobility card if you are staying in private accommodation. The Guest Mobility card is provided by the accommodation.

Is public transport in Salzburg City free?
Yes, the Guest Mobility Ticket gives you free public transport in Salzburg. This includes trolley buses, trains, S-Bahn, and the Salzburg transport shuttle.
The Guest Mobility Ticket is NOT valid on night bus services or for the Festungbahn. To access these services, you will need to buy a ticket.
Are seat reservations included on trains?
No, train seat reservations are not included. Seat reservations are recommended on long-distance and fast trains (RJ, RJX, IC, EC), but they are not required on S-Bahn or REX trains.

Is bicycle transport included ?
No, bicycle transport is not included in the Guest Mobility Ticket. A separate bicycle ticket is required for train journeys.
Due to space restrictions, bike transport is subject to space availability on regional buses, at the driver’s discretion. Outside peak hours, bikes can be taken on Salzburg trolley buses and Albus.
Can I take my dog on buses and local trains free of charge?
Dogs can travel free of charge on public transport with the Guest Mobility Ticket. Note: one dog per person is free.
Can I travel free to Zell am See-Kaprun?
Yes, the Guest Mobility Ticket allows you to travel free to Zell am See-Kaprun from the Salzburg airport or the Salzburg Train Station on public buses and trains.
You can travel free on Salzburg Verkehr (Transit) bus lines 260 and 180, which travel to Zell am See via Bad Reichenhall in Bavaria, Germany.
Can I travel free out of the State of Salzburg?
Free public transportation with the Guest Mobility Ticket is only valid in the State of Salzburg.
When travelling outside SalzburgerLand, only the fare for each additional zone is charged and applied. An additional ticket must be purchased for this.
Can I travel free to Salzkammergut -Wolfgangsee and Mondsee?
Yes, although Wolfgangsee and Mondsee is in Upper Austria, Salzburger Verkehrsverbund (Salzburg Transit) cross-border connections can be used with the Guest Mobility Ticket for bus line 546 to St. Wolfgang and bus line 140 to Mondsee.
Any additional travel outside of Salzburgerland will require you to purchase an additional ticket. When travelling outside SalzburgerLand, only the fare for each additional zone is charged and applied.
Can I travel free to Hallstatt?
No, the Guest Mobility Ticket allows you to travel for free only within Salzburgerland.
Hallstatt is in the State of Upper Austria.
You will need to purchase an additional ticket. When travelling outside SalzburgerLand, only the fare for each additional zone is charged and applied.
Note: If you are travelling by bus, the Guest Mobility Ticket covers bus line 150 to Bad Ischl.
Can I travel free to Bavaria in Germany?
The Guest Mobility Ticket allows you to travel free on the Salzburg Verkehr (Transit) bus lines 260 and 180 to Bad Reichenhall in Bavaria, Germany.
Any additional travel within Bavaria (ie to Berchtesgaden) will require you to purchase an additional ticket. When travelling outside SalzburgerLand, only the fare for each additional zone is charged and applied.
